I let my feet gently swing back and forth as I sat upon the branch and gazed at the puffy grey white clouds as they ambled along.  The air smelled a little like rain, I wondered if I would be sitting out here in the rain.  It would give me an excuse to dance and play without anyone getting upset, because I made a promise to wait here until I received something that I was to then insure it got to the proper owner.  I wasn't sure who would be delivering, what I would be receiving, when I would be getting it, or who I would be giving it to.  I had been told that the person bringing the item would have all the information for me, and since it had been a member of my family to explain all of this, I trusted I would be safe.

Without a sound a tilted my head to listen, what I heard was so slight it could be the rain I was waiting for.  No…it was an even sound and rain is uneven.  It was of three soft taps and rain sounds of hundreds.  This was also coming closer by the second.  I stood silently upon my branch and looked about.  Two of the sounds had stopped but the third remained.  A strong thud.

Thud.

Thud.

It became louder and a little faster.

Thud.  Thud.

Thud.  Thud.

Ears as high as they could go, I listened to where the sound was coming from.  On edge and nervous.  A cough…one that sounded pained.  Moving swiftly and silently I went for whoever was near, someone who could run the branches of trees as easily as I could.  I nearly ran right into him, but I stopped myself just in time to have my nose two inches from his chest.

My pale green swirling eyes slowly went up a gangly body, one that was already showing signs it would fill out to a broad chest…yet it was a little skeletal at this time.  Hands that might be a little big but if the width of his shoulders was a sign…he would grow into them.  I followed his hand as it was brought to his mouth in a fist as he covered his mouth to cough again.  I couldn't help but be captivated by the supple tan color of his skin.  A jaw line that angled down but already showed signs of being powerful, cheek bones that are high but not sharp or overly defined, a straight nose not to big nor too small without the added bumps or mishaps.  I did not dare meet his eyes yet but my trance was broken when he dug for something in one of his pockets.

He drew a handkerchief, simple and white cotton that he brought to his mouth and wiped something black from his soft and full lips.  Without thinking I touched his cheek tenderly and drew what I knew to be poison from his system.  My hand so pale, so white against his cheek, I finally gained the courage and let my eyes follow their way up to his.  Hidden slightly behind a mess of pitch black hair were large amethyst eyes.  Slightly pained but slightly relieved as well.

I could see in his face his age matched mine, or was very close.  Though, he was very tall for a thirteen year old.  Easily a foot to a foot and a half taller than me, and that was to the top of his head, not to the top of the black triangle wolf ears that were forward and perked in my direction as a huge fluffy black tail lazily moved back and forth behind him.

He looked like Rylen, Mystic's mate.  He smelled like Rylen but not.  But…Rylen would have been my age more than a thousand years ago.  Then again, Mystic did time magic…so I guess Rylen could too.  I watched as he tilted his face, keeping his eyes on mine and gently sniffed my wrist, his eyes sliding closed then and a soft smile coming to his lips.  I went to draw my hand back but his rested on mine…and his eyes asked me to keep it there.  So I lightly stroked his cheek with the pads of my fingers.

I had not expect this boy so much taller than me to tilt his head a little more and kiss my palm so tenderly, "You…are Star?"

"I am."

He smiled gently, his eyes losing the pained expression, "Thank you for the help…I didn't mean to…"

"You are an empath…your body absorbs negative emotions and turns it into a poison that you have to expel."

He smiled a little more.  I thought my heart would explode from my chest, his smile made him all the more handsome…"Yes, exactly."  I blushed scarlet and swallowed hard.  My mouth felt so dry.  He mimicked my actions.  Right…empath.  I blushed more.  So did he.  "I am here to see you."

My ears perked up, "You haven't told me your name."

"Rylen Strongheart."

So he was Rylen…but why was he here at such a young age?

He gave a little lopsided grin, very…wolfish… "You're confused."

"Very…" I looked down to hide my embarrassment and confusion.  A warm and large hand gently drew some hair back from my face and tucked it behind an ear that is too short to be elven but too long and pointed to be human.  His hand lingered, his palm lightly on my cheek while his thumb lightly stroked the top ridge of my ear.  Peeking up at him he seemed…fascinated.

I like the feel of his hand.

I have never felt…

I have never felt this way before.

I don't understand this feeling.

I feel like someone let butterflies loose in my stomach as it is doing flip flops and cart wheels.  That my heart may burst from my chest and do a hundred meter dash while I stay standing here.  My mouth is dry and thick like there was cotton in it and made it hard for me to talk.  I could not even think straight...he smelled nice too.

With his hand close I could better catch his scent.  It is warm...slightly musky, of the earth, rich, full, healthy…I can't explain it very well.  Especially with my brain feeling like it could only produce gibberish.

Our eyes met again and I don't know what compelled me but I rubbed my cheek gently against his.  It was like…déjà vu.  I saw that he felt the same.  I doubt either of us could tell why.  As we stood close…oh so close, I could hear the blood rushing through both of our veins.  The way our hearts were beating like crazy.  He took that moment of closeness and kissed my cheek, a soft peck.

But he did not move his lips far.  I could still feel his breath.  I wanted…I wanted him to kiss me.  I wasn't too young…he wasn't too young or too old.  I wished him to kiss me.

His warm lips soon pressed against mine.  For a second and then they were gone again.  Our eyes met once more, those amethyst orbs soft and kind.  Happy…I touched his cheek as his purr started up.  Big purr, even for his bigger size it still was bigger than his body suggested.  His hand placed softly on mine, again, asking me to keep it there.

His other hand took mine and I intertwined our fingers as if I had a hundred times wrapped my small delicate looking digits in between his large, strong feeling ones.

Our eye contact was never lost in those short seconds where we just stood in slight shock, so close our bodies were actually grazed each other.  We both blushed.

Yet as the same time we moved and delicately connected our lips again.

One second.

Two seconds.

Three seconds.

Four seconds.

Five...

Six…

Seven…

Finally we stopped the kiss together, I felt the warm of his lips lingering on my own.  Bright red and feeling shy, I smiled to him timidly and he smiled just as shyly in return.  "You're so beautiful…and someday you'll be my mate."  His voice already showing signs of deepening.

My heart skipped a beat.  I smiled softly and nodded, "Yes…And someday...the handsome guy I am looking at will be mine…"

He blushed.  We stared into each other's eyes again.

We had been so wrapped up in each other, there had been no warning for us when the rain fell.  His hand moved to touch my hair as rain fell on it, "It changes…"  He spoke as if pleasantly surprised.

I blushed and nodded, "It's a natural occurrence in my tribe that when their hair becomes wet it changes to ocean blue."

"Auburn red with silver or ocean blue…it's beautiful."

I blushed more, "Thank you."  I whispered.

"Would you like to go on a date with me?"

I think my heart exploded.  Yes!  Of course!  Always!  Any time!  My mind went a million miles an hour saying yes and all I did in that moment was stare at him.  A rich chuckle, starting to grow deep filled my ears.  I had not said a word but I am guessing he heard every single thing I was thinking.  I blushed more and he did as well.

Our date began with us dancing in the rain…then us playing in the rain.  It ended with us cuddled against the trunk of a tree with spicy hot chocolates as we watched the life of the forest return once the rain had stopped.

My heart hurt when the date was over.  I knew it was over when I saw Seren standing there with a soft smile on her face, ready to take Rylen home.  Tears stung my eyes but I kept the emotion from over taking me, I did not want him to go…I wanted him to stay with me.

I felt a soft nuzzle against my cheek, "I know…I don't want to leave either.  And I don't want to forget…but we have to forget.  Please…don't be sad, you know we will find each other again."

"But it is a long wait for you."  Something tinged his eyes…pride maybe?  Did he feel pride for the words I spoke?  I did not understand why he would be proud of me…

I felt him slip something onto my thumb before his lips pressed mine softly again, "I promise to come when you call for me.  I promise to be there for you.  I will wait a million years if I have too…"

"I promise I will call you.  I promise I will still be here, waiting for you to return."  Another nuzzle and quick kiss and he ran off to join his mother.  He hadn't needed to give me anything, he already had.

My first kiss.

I looked to the ring on my thumb, the only finger that was big enough to fit the ring.  A band with tiny five petal flowers and vines swirled its way to a diamond shape setting, with tiny leaves decorating the outside edge, those tiny flowers that looked almost like stars in each corner.  The center of the ring was a diamond shaped stone that was a pale turquoise that leaned more towards blue than green but when I adjusted to see it better in the light, I swore it was amethyst purple.  The stone sat flush with the metal setting.  It is the pretties ring I have ever seen in my life.  Touching the ring I smiled softly, I would never take this off.

It was a promise waiting to be fulfilled.

~~~
I felt a soft stroking on my right hand along my middle finger, it disappearing but a second before skin contact was reestablished.  Purring softly I opened my eyes to watch my big mate's hand lightly run over a ring I had for many years now, but could not remember where it came from.  His supple tan skin gracing back and forth over my so much paler skin, I do remember when I got the ring it had only fit on my thumb, but as I grew it came to fit on my middle finger.  I also knew, before I met Rylen, I felt more lost and alone than I had been feeling should I ever take it off.  The ring was an odd life line that I do not know why it brought me comfort.
My eyes traveled up from his fingers to hands that were huge but perfectly sized for his body, a scarred wrist, to a strong for arm, huge biceps, defined deltoids, broad shoulders set apart by a chest so big I could lay on it no matter what his size and still be dwarfed (and I'm 5'9"), up a thick neck that also held a scar, to a powerful and angled jaw line, to full soft lips that teased a gentle smile, a straight nose not to big but not too small, high cheek bones that weren't too sharp or overly defined, right up to meet with large amethyst eyes that are full of love and kindness.
My pale turquoise irises, that leaned more towards blue than green which swirled with my own strange powers, held his eyes as we lay in our bed just gazing into the other's eyes.
"You're so beautiful."  His voice is deep, rich, strong yet kept soft only slightly above a whisper.  Even so low it is a rumble that rolls through my body and touches me down to my soul each and every time.  "I can't believe you are my mate."
I smiled softly in return but I felt my cheeks heat with a blush, "Yes, and the handsome guy I'm looking at is mine."
His cheeks tinged with a blush as well as his smile widened.
I had this odd sense of déjà vu…
Like a promise was fulfilled…
And when Rylen leaned in to place his warm lips against mine for one second…
Two seconds…
Three seconds…
Four seconds…
Five…
Six…
Seven…
He slowly drew back but I felt a lingering of his warmth on my lips.
It was like our first kiss all over again.
A bit of fluff and a lot of love.
Or is it a bit of love and a lot of fluff...
Or a lot of love and a lot of fluff...
Hmmm...I think it's the last one...
So after getting inspired for this piece I had to find a ring that would fit what I wanted. Something that would not be all stones or one huge stone and I did not want something tiny nor did I want something huge. Nor did I want it to really look like an engagement or a promise ring since it had to be hidden in plain sight for several years.
This is the ring I found : [link]
So this is one of Mystic's memories from when she was thirteen. Rylen was also thirteen at the time.
Star Mystic Malek Silvermane is my character.
Rylen Strongheart and Seren Gatsu belong to ShadowKnife7
